Biography:
Selected by the Kansas City Royals out of Chatsworth (Calif.) High School in the 1st round (No. 2 overall) of the June 2007 First-Year Player Draft...signed by John Ramey...graduated from Chatsworth (Calif.) High...was a member of Chatsworth's 2004 National Champion squad (USA Today and Baseball America)...helped his team win the Los Angeles City Section Championship by batting .577 with 24 home runs as a senior, which earned him national player of the year honors from Collegiate Baseball, the National High School Coaches Association and EA Sports...named an All-American by Louisville Slugger (2005, 2006, 2007), ABCA (2007) and EA Sports (2006, 2007)...also named to the USA Today All-USA team...voted the state player of the year by the California Baseball Coaches Association...honored as California's sophomore player of the year in 2005, junior player of the year in 2006, and Mr. Baseball in 2007...holds the state record with 54 career home runs...his uncle, Tom Robson, played for the Texas Rangers from 1974-75 and coached with the Rangers, Mets, Reds and the Chiba Lotte Marines...Moustakas and Matt Dominguez, drafted No. 12 overall by the Marlins, became just the sixth set of high school teammates to be selected in the first round of the same draft.
Highlights:
Spent the entire season with the Burlington Bees of the Class A Midwest League...hit .272 (135-for-496) in 126 games, with 25 doubles, three triples, 22 home runs, 71 RBIs, eight stolen bases and 77 runs scored...tied for second (Ryan Shealy) in home runs among all Royals Minor Leaguers and ranked third in RBIs...HR total led the MWL, and his .468 slugging percentage ranked fourth...hit .228 (59-for-259) before the All-Star break and .321 (76-for-237) after...had a hit in each of his first three games (April 3-5)...from May 4-14, hit in eight of 10 games with two hits each time...drove in a season-high four runs for the first time May 26 with a grand slam vs. Beloit...twice had RBIs in four straight games, June 15-21 (1, 2, 1, 2) and Aug. 1-5 (1, 2, 2, 4)...had more than one RBI in 19 games...went 2-for-4 with two homers, four RBIs and two runs scored Aug. 5 against Peoria...hit in a season-high six straight games four times, June 14-22, June 26-July 1, July 25-July 30 and Aug. 1-7.
